Yellow Archangel (Galeobdolon luteum)

Yellow archangel displays the characteristic features of the Labiate (mint) family, a square stem and tubular flowers.

Found mainly in woodlands, especially woodland edges and rides, it is quite widespread but not particularly common. It prefers rich calcareous soils which does limit its range a little in the Sidmouth area. It flowers in May and June and is then at its best.

There is a garden variety with variegated leaves which is often encountered in the wild near human settlements, usually where garden rubbish has been dumped at some time in the past.
